Integrity

If you know you shouldn't lie, but there are many circumstances in life when the truth may seem irrelevant. Is absolute honesty required at all times? Are you obligated to limit your promises to the ones you actually intend  to keep?Must you restrict your comments to those that are entirely truthful?
The culture in Jesus time was so accustomed to making false statements that people would often "swear " to be telling the truth. They asmed that taking an oath of honesty would give greater credibility to their statement Jesus condemned this custom. He taught that integrity and truth have only one level (Matt. 5:33-37 ).
Your word should be enough. Jesus wants your words to be truthful in every conversation. Honesty, integrity, and truthfulness should be more than mere concepts for you. God wants you to put them into practice, and He wants them to be defining characteristics of your life.
But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath,
by heaven or earth or anything else.
Just say a simple yes or no.
JAMES 5:12
